Sustainable Living Builders has my 5 star vote - hands down fantastic! Speaking from experience (we replaced a roof on a previous home as well as solar installs on two previous homes), I can share with confidence that not all roofing and solar companies are made equal, and SLB is by far the best I've ever worked with.

In the past, communication, follow through, and the quality of work have not always met expectations (this is true for many contractors I've worked with). SLB proved to me to be a company that takes pride in putting the customer first, and the best part is they do both roofing and solar (residential and commercial), so both of our projects were seamless since I was working with many of the same individuals throughout. From the start, there was no hard sell or agenda on their end. They listened well, and put together a plan that met our needs. The turnaround time on permits, loans, start and completion dates blew me away, and it was such a smooth process because they were on the ball, communicated frequently with me and with each other, were flexible, and had a great attitude. Not to mention their pricing was competitive, if not better, than the five other quotes I received.

Roofing - They are Master Elite Contractors with GAF. This certification ultimately adds credibility to their workmanship and gives the customer the best warranty possible with their GAF roof installations. The team was flexible with our needs, installed a beautiful new 'charcoal' 50 year GAF Timberline HDZ RS roof and even added an attic fan upon request and moved our ohagen vents around to maximize proper ventilation. Four weeks prior to our install, we had a roof leak in a big storm, and they came out at no cost the same day and covered the leak professionally until it was time to reroof. At install time, the team came in two days early (on the weekend, no less) to get ahead of some rain the following week, and finished the entire project in 4-5 days. They also sent daily updates via email with photos of the evolving project.

Solar - The quality of the panels coupled with our two Tesla Powerall 3 batteries speaks for itself if you do your homework. The solar installation was complete in two days for a 11kw, 26 panel system. They painted all of our conduit on the roof, cleaned up well, and made sure everything was operational before giving me a walk through. Commissioning a system and waiting on PG&E and the local building dept. to give their blessing can take months in some cases, but SLB was on the ball and requested those sign offs as early as they could, so there was little wait at all to become operational once the system was installed.

There are so many solar and roofing companies to choose from. SLB is family owned, and they treat their customers extremely well and their workmanship and materials are top of the line. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking to upgrade their home or business. Thank you again!

My experience with Sustainable Living Builders was outstanding. They replaced our roof and 4 skylights and repaired an area of the roof that had dry rot. From the beginning, the communication was excellent. They came at least twice to examine the roof and some specific areas before they began work. Using photos they took they carefully explained the work they proposed. Once work commenced they were punctual, attentive, and orderly. I was in communication with the foreman by phone and text at all times and there were no surprises. I'm very pleased with SLB and recommend them enthusiastically without any hesitation.

It was definitely a journey getting this project completed. We talked to a few companies and went with SLB Inc. since their solar team was in-house and that made the quote lower and seemed easier to manage logistically. We signed the contract in January but due to unpredictable weather, jobs that may have already been on the calendar, and normal steps in the process (including permits), the job was finalized on April 15th.

There were several things that went well:

· Since it looked like it was going to be a while before they could start the job, SLB put tarps on the roof in a couple of places where leaks had started. They did this really well since we had several windy days (50mph gusts) and the tarps stayed put.

· The plan and materials they use are more up-to-date than what we saw from other companies.

· The cleanup was excellent as the yard and side of house looked better after they were done than before they started! They even cleaned out the gutters after each stage that took them up on the roof.

· They did a really solid job on the roof itself and the aerial pix show just how nice it looks once it was done.

· The solar team took good care of their part and the new mounting hardware for the panels looks well done.

On the other side of things, communication could have been better. From early on, most of the calls/texts were initiated by us except for the occasional automated email. A few times we were supposed to hear back the next day or by a certain day and we’d end up having to follow up ourselves. We’re relatively new homeowners so I figured maybe that’s just what we’d always heard about when working with contractors/companies. They were however very responsive once we did reach out.

There was one piece that turned out to be a challenge - a wood panel at the front of the house where the garage meets the main roof. It took a couple of visits, but the roofing team and several members of the SLB logistics team came out to make things meet, and eventually exceed, our expectations. I was impressed with the commitment and determination toward making things just the way we wanted.

Overall we’re thrilled with the roof and reinstalled solar panels and glad we shouldn’t have to deal with any of that for another 20 – 30 years. And, once again, glad we went with Sustainable Living Builders having gotten to see their dedication to satisfaction.

When a redwood branch fell through our roof, Sustainable Living Builders was there to help. Contacted in the morning, SLB had a team of professionals out to tarp our roof that very afternoon. All the SLB team members were professional and polite. They did a fantastic job, and now our roof is protected from the coming rains. Great work, SLB!

I had begun to abandon hope of getting my roof replaced before State Farm cancelled my home owners insurance. But then I found Sustainable Living Builders. They got the job done with professionalism and were able to accommodate removal and re-installation for my solar panels which seemed daunting to other contractors. The work was done on time and within budget. I will write another positive review after it starts raining!

They cleaned up all of the debris, and did a final walk through to make sure we were completely satisfied. Also, they were easily contacted and explained everything well.
