I get my electricity in Folsom, New Mexico, from the Springer Electric Co-op, located about 50 miles from my home in, of course, the small town of Springer right off I-25. I've been a customer for about 3 years and their service and prices are very reasonable.

The Springer Electrical Co-op services many small towns in a 50 mile by 50 mile radius, and it might actually even be larger than that. They must have 1,000s of electric poles dancing across the landscape to reach so many towns and all of the residences within those hamlets. My wooden service pole was pretty old and over the years had developed a small crack in the wood as well as slight twist to it.

Just because I naturally think in terms of safety and security, I called the Co-op and spoke to a woman in the office, explaining the situation. I mentioned that it was not an imminent danger, however the Co-op might want to evaluate it. Considering how many 1,000s of poles that they have, how could they honestly have closeup contact with them all in order to make safety assessments? This is where alert and caring customers come into the feedback loop, myself included. I sent her photos via the email that she provided.

Anyway, the very next day after their office received my photos via email, one of their service tradesman visited my land in Folsom and evaluated the pole. I was in the house and didn't see him until he was driving away. He had marked my pole with a white plastic tape.

Surprisingly, the very next day, 3 service vehicles and 4 or 5 men showed up and replaced the older pole with a sturdy new one. The exchange took a few hours and they made sure to inform me that my electric would be out for the least amount of time that they could manage. It was sort of mind-boggling since I only discovered them due to the working sounds of their huge drill rig and extender bucket vehicle. They had arrived and just gone to work immediately.

If more companies took this kind of exemplary care of their equipment and customers, consumers would become much more cognizant of the priceless service they receive and not take it for granted. Professional, caring, and communicative. What a company.....
