If you own solar, avoid SJCE.
SJCE double dips on true up charges. You will receive a true up from PGE and also another true up for very much the equivalent from San Jose Clean Energy. This has to be the most unethical business practice I’ve ever seen. So much for “saving” San Jose City residents money; SJCE claims to charge San Jose residents 1% less than PGE rates, however, for solar customers the fact is that we are getting charged TWICE for the electricity that we use at true up for both PGE and SJCE.

We have now opted-out of SJCE and our bills have been reduced back to normal. screw this company and their predatory billing practice. San Jose City should be ashamed of themselves.

San Jose Clean Energy has claimed multiple times via email that they do not double dip with regards to Solar True-up. They claim PGE only charges delivery fees or something along those lines; the proof is in the bills, they blatantly lie to your face and rob you of your money.

Prior to SJCE, our Solar true-up was a range between negative balance (PGE compensating us for exporting more power than we consumed) and $200.

With SJCE our true-up increased to over $1,200 (PGE & SJCE combined) . You don’t have to be a mathematician, however SJCE has many “senior analysts” on payroll to do this to their benefit.

Opt-out of SJCE if you own solar panels on your residence.

A look at their website staff directory, it’s evident where all the money they’ve managed to bill us has gone. They’re cashing in on Silicon Valley residents and it’s an absolute shame.

My family and I are super happy with San José Clean Energy. Their rates are fair, their website is easy to navigate, and best of all, we San José residents can get cleaner energy than most of the state of California! As soon as we found out we could get 100% clean electricity with TotalGreen, we signed up. I'm so proud to live in a city that has clean electricity, because my grandkids need a livable future!

(Update):

San Jose Clean Energy simply stated a mis-information (just like our government..): I did the homework, and found out that San Jose Clean Energy actually charged more than if I asked the service to be provided by PGE. That was why I opted out of this program and got back to PGE..

When you see the title of a company being extremely woke/grandstanding, you know something is wrong with it. In short, this organization (by the city of san Jose ) simply charge you more for the same amount of electricity you use. The city will "help" you enroll automatically (when's the last time your government proactively do something to help you ) And the next thing you know : you got a huge electricity bill of very complicated and confusing breakdowns and non user friendly format, with no clear instructions of how to opt out unless you call (and wait on the line) the right person

We need politicians with Common Sense, which is especially lacking in the state of California governments, whether it's on city or state or county level.

Bob and I are thrilled to be part of the San Jose Clean Energy family of customers. With SJCE we've had 100% clean energy for 2.5 years. I've talked with the SJCE staff and seen how committed they are to providing the best service to our community and to working hard to move us away from toxic fossil fuels to clean, healthy energy.

I was automatically enrolled because it’s allowed by law they do so, never received notification about this called to opt out and they provided me with that. Never mentioned I had to wait until the next billing cycle that I would still need to pay, my bill doubled the last two months! I’ve never seen this happen with pg&e, not even on hot days would my bill go up this much. They didn’t even want to credit me for a service I NEVER wanted in the first place!

SJCE makes me proud to be a San Jose resident. I profoundly appreciate their smart work to decrease energy costs, decrease pollution, fight climate change, and support lower income residents.

I second Alex M's post. Horrible situation for residential solar producers! I read that post, and it resonated with our household's experience. Cancel cancel cancel!
