I emailed RCEA a few weeks back regarding a billing question. Since then, I have had 2 really helpful meetings with their team.
1- A review of their home energy kit, where I could choose a few different items to help with energy efficiency. They mailed it to me and the kit contained everything we had discussed (ex: a toilet leak detection item, insulation for wall outlets and light switches, low flow toilet device, etc.)
2- A review of my home's energy efficiency. This person was very knowledgeable- we discussed all appliances, insulation, potential air leaks, etc. They will be sending me a report with tips on how to proceed and help with my energy efficiency and costs. (During this call we also reviewed my PGE bills for potential red flags.)

I want to share my experience because I don't think many people know these services are available. And while it isn't a fix-all, I think it will make a difference and their team genuinely seems to want to help.

Beware of RCEA's rebate programs! I submitted my EV rebate application early 2023 before they pulled it from their website. Today I was informed that "funding had run out" so now my application is in limbo.

While I understand that these programs are "while supplies last" it's still bad customer service to treat the community this way. RCEA buys power on the cheap from producers and artificially sells it to customers in Humboldt County for .01 per kwh less that PG&E. Rather than use funds from that delta to cover the unfortunate few who manage to submit their applications before some bureaucrat somewhere decided to stop funding a grant, they instead decided to continue fleecing us like PG&E. Humboldt County would be a lot better off if we had the liberty to cut out the middleman and buy our power directly.

So if you’re planning on purchasing an e-bike, an EV charger or whatever, and budget on an RCEA rebate, then understand that you’re playing Russian roulette. Even if you call them and they tell you “oh yeah, there’s plenty of funding” and then when you apply for your rebate, there suddenly isn’t, just know that RCEA won’t take responsibility and make it right.

RCEA is being paid for doing nothing. ALL outages and repair emergencies are handled by PG&E. Where do you even generate power? Are you using the old PG&E plant Rex Bohn got reactivated, which is all that kept our power on last fire season? What, other than add to the size of our bills do you actually do?

Since inception, the CCA program provided by RCEA has been saving a significant amount of money over PG&E's generation/procurement. The result has been savings on each and every bill since the program began. It does mean that I get paid slightly less for my solar generation, even with the solar generation premium, but that is an acceptable trade-off for me since it isn't always sunny. Will their procurement methods be cheaper than PG&E forever? I don't know, but they have been doing a great job so far.

No dashiell yerton, RCEA is not "stealing" from the citizens of Humboldt. THEY'RE providing electrical generation and PG&E is providing transmission. If you bothered to read your bill, which you obviously didn't, you'd see that PG&E gives you an electrical generation CREDIT, and then RCEA charges you a generation fee. And guess what? RCEA is LESS than PG&E. That's right, you're saving money. Next time, try reading before sniveling about something of which you are utterly ignorant.

Great service. You can call them to upgrade your electricity to 100% renewable, and your rate will go up a tiny amount. ($0.01 a kWh) It amounted to 2 to 3 dollars a month more for me compared to my previous service. For reference our bill is (with the new plan) usually $30 a month. If you don't like it, opt out. Call them, rather than complain to the internet.

RCEA summer rates are exorbitantly high for the electric vehicle plan. So far, RCEA cannot explain the difference. Further, they do not list summer months vs winter months.

Not accepting tax payer funded nuclear energy at no cost. Bad decision.
