My joke to the neighbors is "you can always tell if Sunset Scavengers has been here because there is garbage strewn all over the street". It is a weekly ritual cleaning up after the Scavengers. They should be paying us. We need a new company providing competent services at a reasonable price. Sunset Scavengers is not it and they have had plenty of time to get it right.

Not great, but could be worse.
- They generally pick up my garbage 95% of the time without hassle.
- They regularly have put the bins right next to my car on a windy day, once were knocked into my car right away and caused scratches.
- Rude phone support when I called to ask why the garbage hadn't been picked up, okay another time.

I am very unhappy with the service at Sunset Scavenger. It has taken multiple calls and eventually hiring an outside trash removal service to remove the yard waste they said they would remove. Every time their driver, would barely pick up the standard yard waste compost bag, which is filled with leaves, roots and branches, and leave a note saying they are too heavy. How heavy? well that depends on who you ask at the company as it varied EVERY time I called. Meanwhile my children are helping me move these heavy heavy bags. I even offered to just bring the truck and I will pick them up and throw them in the truck. But they won't ring the doorbell, just barely try to pick it up and then spend time writing a note and driving off. Of course, this complaint won't be treated seriously, as Sunset Scavenger has a monopoly on the trash service here and they are the only option available, so just be prepared to take their lack of service and like it, because you have no other options, but to pay out of pocket for a private service, who came today, and removed 20 bags. Pathetic.

Inner Richmond. Never have problem. But my bin tops are always closed, not overflowing. Perhaps you are the problem.

Why would anyone go to any trouble to write a review of a utility service? Try to imagine how miserable that experience must have been. I was on hold for an hour, and I ultimately gave up trying to reach someone at the office so that I could have them kindly unlock my account so I could give them money again. Why, "is it possible to unlock the account online", you might ask? No, taking a leaf from the 1990's this system has you call them directly to complete such a simple task. And either no one works there, or they're so incompetent that no one picks up the phone, making it impossible for you to comply with what they want you to do, which is give them money. This department is incompetently run, and the website needs a major overhaul to make it functional. Right now, the phone numbers don't work, the website doesn't work, and there's essentially no way for you to fork over cash to them, even though they still want you to. Maybe I should try sending the money by carrier pigeon next time to their office.

Recology workers are rude even over the phone when you call! The men give us garbage cans that don't belong to our building. Now for what a person pays this is not acceptable. They need to hire people that are more professional and give better customer service.

We have a small business in SF and are forced in using Recology due to the monopoly the city allows. Our biggest complaint is on the missed pick up issues and over billing. Our latest issue was an entire week of missed pickup. We pay on average $1,500 a month. When we are missed for a week they fight our request for a credit. It took me 4 months to get my money back and they told me every time I called that I had to pay the over billing otherwise they submit a lien on the property. How is this corrupt behavior allowed and permitted. People need to sue them more often for this behavior and the city needs to do something to breakup the monopoly they have a lock on. The city should offer incentives to bring in competing businesses for the peace of mind and the citizens. An example of yet another reason why businesses are fleeing SF as fast as possible.

This company's garbage collector damaged my property not following pick up instructions IN PLACES FOR DECADES.... I filed a claim and the supervisor was ignorant of what to do for 2 months and did not provide the inconvenience fee he promised, and finally I had to call their insurance company and they paid for the damages. Then they harassed and retaliated against me and changed my bill increased my bill $40 a month All the people I talked too were rude and of course denied retaliation ,but my bill has been the same with the normal increases for decades. Recology just finished investigations by the California Attorney Generals office and the city Of SF and were held accountable!!! AND THEIR STILL DOING IT!!
Aug 2023 update…
Since this writing my bill has gone up a total of $103 in six months For a total of $210 for just 4 bins They continue their retaliation against me. I’ve tried filing complaints but the Sunset Scavenger and city of San Francisco are like the mafia , there’s nothing I can do and no accountability for them. Also, everyone should be aware they’ve approved more rate increases for 2024 and 2025 Have any of you look at your bills and noticed that if you have garbage pick up inside your property you’re charged a fee for EACH Bin for distance? And if a key is needed to get in to your property a key charge for.EACH Bin as well
