For several years we have worked on projects that have benefited from the installation of

Messana Hydronic Technologies always delivered innovative technologies while educating both us, the architects, and the homeowners on this very efficient and sustainable mechanical system.

Fine tuning such a flexible system is a complex task that involves electronic controls and Messana has a proprietary software and dedicated engineers that allow for a special customization depending on the specific house and customer needs.

Once you have experienced the sensation of radiant heating and cooling that does not require ducts, that is very quiet, and that doesn't push around dust, you won't look back at conventional HVAC systems. And of course, it also saves a lot of energy.

I was looking for a heating/cooling system that would avoid the use of forced air and that could be seamlessly implemented in the remodel of my house.
Messana had the solution that met all my requirements, including the ability to control the system remotely, with an easy to use app. I used Messana Ray Magic ceiling panels and I am very pleased with the results, both as a homeowner and as an architect.

We are overall happy with our Messana radiant heating/cooling system, though it has taken some time and effort to get to this point (due to issues related to the installation that was done by our General Contractor). If Messana is your choice and it is installed properly, the system offers reliable heating and cooling with no (or minimal) blowers, no (or minimal) ducts, and the ability to manage different rooms in your home through the set up of different zones. We didn't want a system with a lot of blowing air and lots of ducts and filters, and we wanted a quiet heating/cooling system that has low maintenance, so we are please with the final result.

My two comments:

1. Messana Hydronic Technologies/Radiant Cooling in Santa Cruz is the distributor of materials for your system and will help design your specific system. You can go to their office to experience the Messana system in action. But they will not be the ones who are responsible for installation of your Messana system. This will be the job of a general contractor or subcontractor.

We didn't understand how installation worked, and thought that it was largely (or entirely) supervised by Messana Hydronic Technologies/Radiant Cooling in Santa Cruz. That wasn't the case, and installation was done by others. Be certain that whoever you select to install Messana has experience installing this type of heating/cooling system and is qualified to do it. Our installer was our GC, who had helped install a system or two, but tried to do our entire install on his own. It wasn't done well enough, and we had to hire Hydronica (another company in Soquel that handles installation and maintenance) to trouble shoot and fix a number of issues.

Now that our Messana system has been properly installed, it works well, and we are told that it should not require much (if any) maintenance. On that note, you should also decide at the outset who will service/maintain the system (if necessary) and help with any repairs, should they be required.

2. Your ability to control the Messana system is more complicated than managing a typical hot/cold air duct/blower convection system. Messana has both an online multi-page manual as well as an "app" that allows you to make presets and adjustments depending upon the time of day, time of year, how you live in your home (which areas you want to warm or cool). While this offers a great deal of flexibility and can improve the efficiency of your system, there are many decisions to make about pre-sets, summer/winter changeovers, daytime and weekly schedules, their "energy saving" mode, "convective integration" (if you have cooling coils), and some other set up options. Bryan Rossi, who works for Messana Hydronic Technologies/Radiant Cooling in Santa Cruz, helped us a lot with this and he is a wonderful resource. But ultimately, to get your Messana system optimized for your home, you will need to be involved with the set up process and tweak things every so often.

Final words...once installed properly and set up to our needs, the Messana radiant heating/cooling system is great. I still believe that this is the heating/cooling system of the future (that is here now - at least for N. California). Despite some hiccups regarding installation and set up, we are now enjoying our Messana system a lot.
