They aren't willing to work at all with payment. I asked for them to work with me. They were willing to give be a seven day extension with no payment, but not willing to let me pay half my total balance and pay the rest on my next due date. They told me they would disconnect me - in the middle of winter. They won't work at all with customers. The employees were also very rude. Smug bald man in the back with his nose turned up.

I somehow missed paying one bill that I never received in the mail. Next communication was a disconnect notice in the mail. No phone calls. I immediately processed the overdue bill through my bank’s online payment system. Two business days later the truck is in my driveway to disconnect my power with three young children at home, but thankfully couldn’t get through our gate. I have never had an overdue payment in my life on multiple mortgages, credit cards, etc, other than the occasional late payment through this utility company due to unrealistic deadlines.

The people are nice, but have no idea what’s going on. 3 times my electric has been cut without notice.
This last time it happened, I had already paid and they cut it off anyways. After making a huge fuss they forwarded the money to the next bill.

And guess what they did again today?
Cut it off. I brought the receipt and showed them it had been paid. Had to get off early to do it, and now I’m still waiting on my power to be restored.
Honestly, nothing against the people I talked too, they seemed nice but this place is a racket. Same with the rest of Blount County.

The current payment system used by Maryville utilities is antiquate and is in dire need of modernization. The reconnection fees are burdensome, particularly the $400 fee after 4:30 PM, which seems disproportionate and out of touch with contemporary billing standards. There's a clear urgency for a change to ensure alignment with modern billing practices and enhanced customer convenience. Not allowing online payment once your account has been restricted is criminal. You have to call and make a payment and that just seems backwards because if it’s after business hours you are out of luck. People should be allowed to make a payment on their account whenever. Especially if it is a late payment.

They are absolutely awful! They have unrealistic payment timelines, and are extremely difficult to work with. There customer service is horrible!

I hadn't received a bill for about 6 months, so I thought that the account had been changed over to my tenant as it should have been. I called Maryville Utilities to have it changed back to us, and was shocked to find out it was still in our name. Rather than changing the account over to our tenant, they started forwarding the utilities (still in our name) to the tenant without our knowledge nor our authorization. Then they wanted to blame the post office. Really?

I received the bill that our tenant owed on the 13th, and attempted to pay it online. Their system wouldn't let me. So I wrote a check, and mailed it 2 days later. A few days after that, I get a phone call, stating they can't process my payment, because the account had been terminated. He said I would need to pay in cash (I live in GA so a 4 hr drive is not exactly convenient), or pay with a card. I told him to mail the check back to me, and once I received it, and would make some other form of payment arrangement.

Two weeks go by, and I still had not received the check back, but I got another bill in the mail, which I also paid. I drove up to do some work on the house; power is still off. So I called them to find out what they were doing with my two payments, and if the power would be turned back on. They told me they shredded my check (rather than mailing it back to me as I asked) ,and it would be $290 reconnect fee.

I am just trying to do the right thing in getting the company paid for a bill that technically should not even be mine, because they failed to change it over. I had to void the two payments and settle the account, because they refused to take my money.

They obviously do NOT care enough about their customers to try to work with them at all. I certainly have no desire to continue to give them my money. If you have ANY other utility option besides Maryville, I strongly recommend you use anyone else but Maryville. Buyer beware!

I have worked with Maryville Utilities for new service at two different properties and both times I have received excellent customer service. The first time I was able to go to the office and the person was kind and helpful. The second time I made application for new service online and followed up with a phone call and found equally helpful and friendly service.

Struggled to pay this company for years. I receive a first bill in the mail the day they shut off my power at least 6 times a year for many years now. Email notifications come through randomly. They really don't care to help fix the issue and put the onus on the customer to find and pay their bill without them doing their job. Very frustrating. By far the worst utility company I have ever used in my life. It truly amazes me this magnitude of ineptness can stay in business on any level.
