They don't stand by their product. My handheld vac stop working I called Makita to find out my options for repairing it, I was told to go to the website to check the numbers to see if it was under warranty. It was, it created a label, sent it in. Then I get a call from John saying it was not under warranty and they would need to charge me to fix it. I purchased a Milwaukee instead. Told him he can keep it. Buy another brand

I bought a Makita XSF03Z recently and it hasn't worked out of the box. It's not possible to adjust the screw depth. I contacted Makita and to get service I have these two options:
- Take a three hour round trip to a service center and maybe six if I must leave it and go back to retrieve it.
- Take a one hour round trip to a UPS store and pay for shipping.

My effort to get the tool fixed or replaced will cost more than the tool; maybe multiple of times the cost. Makita knows this and the reasons above are the reason their support mechanism is set up this way; to prevent returns and repair costs to the company by drastically reducing customer returns.

I've been a loyal Makita customer for over 25 years. That ends now!

I am an “old school guy” my first inclination is to gravitate towards gas powered tools (whether it be 2 or 4 stroke)
Initially I had found an articulating hedge trimmer that I really liked.
I placed an order with “Jacks small engines” paid for the trimmer….and waited, and waited and waited. (Always on backordered the manufacturer.
Finally after weeks and weeks, I contacted Makita and inquired as to the status of this item.
I was told by a representative that Makita had decided to stop manufacturing gas powered tools.
I contacted “Jacks Small engines” and after I told them what I had been told…
They stuck with their original story…..
“The product had not been discontinued.”
They then contacted Makita.
Finally during my last contact with “Jacks Small engines”
They told be that in fact that model had been discontinued.🤷‍♂️
I asked them just how long they would have strung me along (they did have my money.
I will never do business again with “Jacks Small Engines” (no sorry…no kiss my ass)
Fortunately, I had inquired with the Makita Rep what model would be the equivalent in battery operated trimmer.
He shared with me that the closest model would be the XNUO1T The Makita cordless 18v LXT brushless 20” Articulating pole hedge trimmer.
I ordered one through Amazon, and I could not be happier.
This tool is a beast!!!
Comes with 2 batteries and a charger
1 charge lasts forever.
I don’t know why I waited so long.
All you need to do is read the reviews.
You will see.

Bought a $700 dust extractor. Didn't last a year
Bought a $300 cordless worm drive saw. Didn't last a year
Bought $250 worth of 5 amp hour batteries. Didn't last a year
Bought $150 cordless grinder. DIDN'T. LAST. A YEAR.
I've been a strictly Makita user for the past decade. Called the number regarding getting the tools repaired or replaced and was told I was SOL because I didn't have the receipts on hand despite me pointing out that the serial numbers can be referenced showing the tools are less than a year old.
Makita used to be a quality tool, now its a joke.
I'm switching to Milwaukee.

Sent a brand new $800 earth auger tool in for warranty repair - it's an essential work tool and it only lasted for 2 hours worth of work. To bad for me because I owned it for 31 days and could not bring it back after 30 days to where I bought it for a refund. I sent it to the La Mirada warranty repair and have proof it was delivered 2 weeks ago from Fed Ex. 3 weeks later and not a peep out of Makita and the tool is still listed as "pending- awaiting unit". Too bad because I like Makita tools in general, but we can't afford to have this much downtime while Makita drags their feet. They should have sent me a brand new one right away if they don't have time to repair it. My advice is to avoid Makita for heavy duty tools that you require to function.

I have switched to teal from yellow after SB&D built a brand new Crafts.man hand tools plant in Fort Worth in 2020 and immediately closed it (and a second plant in SC) in 2023. Sold all my yellow on Craigslist late last year and bought LXT replacements. Makita, please stay just Makita!
