For start-up founders, I have three suggestions:

(1) Try home lab first.
Packages offered by HE were really expensive. The basic $400 package gave 15A power but they won't allow to use 70% consistantly. Correct me if I make any mistake: 0.7 * (15A * 110V)/1000 * 0.36(electricity) * 24(hours) * 30(days) + 50(network):= $350. You will pay less if you put the server at home or in the garage running at 24/7.

(2) Try some cloud service providers.
As a previous start-up founder, the lesson I learned is that the way to iterate and scale the product is to develop the CI/CD pipeline and to polish your teams' skill of software orchestration such as k8s, instead of spending days and weeks buying and fixing servers. CSPs simply can't run out of coupons for startups. Spend your money and time wisely.

(3) Try the 3-month option first.
Our team initially signed a 6-month contract, and HE did not allow us to terminate it, even though my company went bankrupt shortly after we joined HE. They require corporate dissolution paperwork if you wish to end the contract early. However, the process of closing a company can be time-consuming.

The party for colocation services is over; the lights are out, and the crowd has moved on.

Whether your network is large or small, Hurricane Electric will support your needs. Their team was very welcoming and accommodating to my company and all of our employees, and their service thus far has been spot-on.

Regarding their pricing, everything is very open and honest, and generally the best value in the bay area; with that being said, pricing offers are as-is, and are non negotiable unless you intend to rent dozens of cabinets. They offer monthly free remote hands hours for every client, in addition to more advanced services. The pricing for said advanced services can be quite expensive, which is to be expected from having an engineer service your cabinet.

Over all, this is our favorite facility to visit. Their team is very knowledgeable and will provide you with the tools needed to facilitate your deployment, in addition to making you feel welcome at their facility.

Most importantly, don't forget to ask about Cat5 🙂

I love it here, staff is so so kind❤️❤️

This is Steve Jobs’ old building where they made Macs and still has a very Apple feel to it. Great place to park your gear!

The Costco of data centers, and I mean that in all the best ways. No, it’s not fancy and doesn’t have biometric locks everywhere. But if you need somewhere to run your servers without spending the GDP of a small nation, this is the place to do it. Friendly staff, plentiful space, very reliable connectivity.

I've had a rack here for years, and honestly have not been able to find a better deal. Unmetered gigabit, 20A, and an entire rack for $400. If it weren't for the distance to home in case of a server emergency, I would keep this rack here forever. I absolutely highly recommend this to anybody looking for reliable, high quality, inexpensive coloration.

Great facility, friendly and helpful staff, inexpensive, rock solid, and copious loaner gear including tools, crash carts, and workbenches. Beats every Equinix and CoreSite facility I've used on all of the above.
