We were customers before switching to a ground source heat pump. If you're coming to the organization from an environmental angle, as I did, you should know that they partner with oil suppliers that actively campaign against climate legislation. Specifically, the supplier they connected us with was working to subvert Clean Heat Standard legislation. Until they end their oil program, you might think of them as an oil company middleman with advocacy arms that work towards diametrically opposed ends.

I am upset with Green Energy Consumer Alliance, as they took my membership renewal check and never cared about me after that. The member oil company doesn’t care about these people. I still have to pay full price with no significant discounts. They lie about their advocacy work to me in order me to renew. I am still waiting for my refund of $45.00 on this membership renewal which is substantial to my savings with the oil company. They do not lie about the consequences of overinflated oil.

I've been a member for 10+ years and have been very pleased with the local company they matched us with, the savings we have benefited from and for their other programs. Some of us don't have an option to switch from oil heat at the moment, and having this alliance do work to support green energy is important to me and my family.

Loie Hayes is amazing! She was incredibly helpful, teaching me about heat pumps in great detail over email. I got in contact after she presented at a heat pumps webinar hosted by Mothers Out Front, and she showed me cost comparisons for electricity compared with gas and oil prices and explained them all. She also sent me the PDF of webinar presentation, which reminded me about rebates & the tax credit and gave ballpark costs. Got all this advice for free. I work for a solar company, and I was able to pass this info on to a few homeowners, who all agreed that it was super helpful. She also suggested Adobe Energy Management for a $150 home energy audit to figure out how much energy usage the heat pumps would add in conjunction with their home layouts and insulation - since they partner with building science experts - and they were way more helpful than the average MassSave audit (which is still good, just not as great for future energy estimates). Highly recommend!

I’ve been a customer of these folks for roughly 30 years. I bought oil through their program for years. I used a couple of different oil delivery companies. With one of them, there were a couple of glitches, but overall, the service—both oil delivery and maintenance—was very reliable. More recently, I’ve used their green electricity program. I did some research, and I think it’s the best in Massachusetts. Finally, I bought a Prius Prime (plug-in-hybrid electric car), and, with rebates, the tax credit, and their Drive Green discount, I saved $11,000 (!) off the sticker price—without the hassle of a tense negotiation with a car salesperson. This is a great non-profit organization.

Thought I was paying too much for the oil co. I was paired with on top of paying for a membership for mass energy. Got a offer for a free furnace cleaning if I switched to another oil provider. The new oil provider told me they'd be cheaper for oil per gallon than mass energy but they're not.

UPDATE

So I called to set up my oil delivery with the company I was paired with since Im using mass energy again and got the same company I had the first time but they said I cancelled service with them and they don't have anything from mass energy even though I had a email saying to contact Devaney I should be all set. Clarissa from mass energy made multiple calls telling Devaney they just need to set me up on their end but they were so rude and unprofessional about me canceling before because I was promised a better offer (that I didn't get so why I'm switching back) that they kept telling me to keep calling mass energy and have them figure it out. Clarissa helped me through the hour long ordeal and paired me with a much more professional company Fernandez. The process with them took 10 minutes over the phone. So I'm giving now green energy 5 stars for being so helpful and patient in dealing with Devaney who holds grudges for trying to save money..

Extremely disappointed. Signed up and was matched with a heating oil dealer that would not accept cash on delivery without complex credit check, signed agreements, etc - unlike what was advertised for COD services. Called to complain, and was told that this dealer is the only one for my area and the fee I paid to be a member is non-refundable. Seriously, look around and call a few local dealers before signing up. I found one only a few cents more than this alliance is charging, and with absolutely NONE of the hassle. Maybe you will have better luck than I did, but as far as I'm concerned, they just stole my money.

This is an excellent organization. They use their purchasing power to negotiate great oil prices for their members. They can pair you up with a full service oil company that serves your area. We've used them for two winters now and have saved a lot of money and we are very happy. Thanks Consumers Alliance!
