Terrible customer service. They missed my trash so I gave it almost a week and then I called, maya tried to make me move my cans I've had in place for five years, to another street because my address was not the same st as pick up. She then told me my cans were in an alley and they don't do alley service anymore because the trucks are larger. My cans have never been in an alley for pickup. They're at the end of my driveway. She then tried to sell me walk up service. I said no, she told me I needed to move the cans again and said they sent me proof. I asked for it since it's all recorded, while I was giving her my email she shouted at me to slow down. I paused, she hung up. I called back and another clerk told me it was just a driver mistake and they'll credit me five bags for additional pickup. Cool. Manger called and said he drove by and my cans are too close to the alley (I store them on the side of my driveway so I can use the driveway) no problem. I moved them six feet into my driveway behind one of my vehicles. I just watched the truck drive passed my house for the third time in less than two months.

GFL (Green for Life) is an utterly deplorable trash service that has been a nightmare for my business and countless others—business owners and residents alike—since they took over our previous provider in late 2021/early 2022. What was once a reliable service has become a cesspool of incompetence, dishonesty, and predatory practices that no one should endure. Their pricing is a blatant scam. They’ve repeatedly raised our dumpster service rates without notice or justification, while slapping on an arbitrary “fuel surcharge” that’s completely opaque. Despite extensive research, I found no clear explanation of how this surcharge is calculated—just a vague claim that it’s tied to national fuel prices. Where’s the transparency? A legitimate company would provide a matrix: X amount for $3–$3.50 per gallon, Y amount for $3.50–$4, and so on. Instead, GFL hides behind ambiguity, gouging customers at will. Worse, they charge wildly inconsistent rates in the same area, with some paying triple what others do—a clear sign of a monopoly exploiting its power.

Their service is just as atrocious. A month and a half ago, GFL decided—without any notice—to empty our dumpster a day early, citing “forecasted weather.” Except they didn’t. I was out of town and initially believed their claim that it was serviced on Tuesday instead of our scheduled Wednesday. My employees said otherwise, and security footage confirmed no GFL truck ever appeared. Yet, they insisted it was dumped and were ready to charge me for an extra service that week to fix their failure. Their customer service is a infuriating maze of automated systems and clueless staff who promise callbacks that never come, leaving my dumpster overflowing and my business in chaos. Only after threatening to switch providers did they grudgingly agree to a “special trip” a day later to do the job they were paid for. This isn’t service; it’s extortion, and they pull the same stunts on regular residents, not just businesses.

The final straw was their cancellation process, which exposed GFL’s true nature as a bullying, deceitful corporation. When I tried to cancel, they claimed I was locked into a five-year contract from 2022—a contract I have no memory of signing and would never have agreed to for a dumpster. When I demanded to see it, they refused to email it, refused to let me pick it up, and said it wasn’t online. Their only offer? They’d mail it, conveniently delaying my ability to review it before my planned cancellation date of May 1, 2025. When I said I wouldn’t pay after that date, they threatened to send me to collections and charge “damages” for breaking this phantom contract. I told them to take me to court—I’d love to see them defend their lies. They use these tactics on everyone, from small businesses to homeowners, trapping people in overpriced, unreliable service with intimidation.

GFL’s playbook—arbitrary pricing, fabricated contracts, non-existent communication, and threats—is that of a greedy, shady monopoly that preys on customers who can’t or won’t fight back. Their sporadic rates, charging some customers triple others in the same area, and their bullying are unacceptable. I urge everyone—business owners and residents fed up with GFL’s deceitful, incompetent service—to switch providers, stand together, and, if needed, lawyer up to fight this predatory company. Don’t let GFL’s dishonesty win. It’s time to take out the trash—and I mean GFL.

2 stars go to office personnel, however as a paying customer weekly, knowing customers that pay, pay for the wages of the drivers, and sitting at a transfer station for an hour and some because drivers pull in and PURPOSELY block you in is ridiculous regardless of having routes or not. I have things I have to do as well. I suggest company wise should be more considerate to the ones who pay for the drivers wages. Most unprofessional, uncourteous deal I’ve ever encountered. Do better!

Terrible garbage company! They leave our neighbors garbage cans in our driveway and also leave some cans tipped over. Drivers need to stop being lazy or find a new job. Delivery drivers get in and out of their trucks, you can too! This company and their employees are pure trash, no pun intended.

GFL Environmental bought out Express in Chippewa Falls area and have not provided very good service including not fully emptying cans to driving right by without stopping when cans are out ( saw on our door camera) but this week on Christmas Eve they decided to change our subdivision from afternoon pickup to early morning with no notice to any customers . All neighbors that reached out were treated rudely or were told for more money they would send driver back. This on a day where families have a lot of company for the holidays and now the trash will sit here until next week and if you put any outside the can they will charge more. Plan to explore other options

New to the area. You could tell this office was ran fairly unprofessionally just listening to the managers talk on the way in. Went into this office today to ask if they do hazardous waste removal(ie. Old paint, etc.) They don’t. I noticed all the trash out front along the long sidewalk leading into the building, and I mentioned in conversation that they have a lot of trash out front. I mentioned it because I thought it was ironic to have trash strewn outside when you are in the trash business. The manager commented they have someone coming to pick up the trash tomorrow. This sort of blew my mind. Who does GFL call to pick up their own trash? Aren’t you trash collection? I guess they don’t know how to pick up trash.

Gfl holiday garbage pick up schedule is a joke. Worst company ever better off driving my damn garbage to their landfill. This company is a joke and there are wait lists for every other company in town. Do better GFL. Would give 0 stars.

Signed up for service two weeks ago. Was fine until yesterday. They picked up on time and everything, but when I went home for lunch, I noticed a GFL truck with trailer parked outside our place. Didn't really think anything of it. Got home from work later and these clowns took my Recycling bin for no reason?
