I had Genrenew install solar on my roof about 8 years ago. I recently needed to get my roof replaced and called to get a quote for the job. When we originally got the solar system we specifically asked how much it would cost if the roof needed to be replaced... We were told it would be $500 for the removal and another $500 for the reinstall. The quote I was given from them was close to 8 times that amount! I understand that the price would have gone up maybe 20-30% or something like that but 800+% more? To be somewhat fair, I did get a few other quotes which were similar, but the point is that I was mislead originally. When I mentioned the amount I was told they told me that I did not have that in a contract so it doesn't matter what someone told me. My problem is that it does matter. Had I anticipated that I would wipe out 15 years worth of "savings" on a 20 year lease I would not have signed up for it.

Follow up to reply:
Regarding $500 being inaccurate - that's exactly the point. Now, after needing to replace my roof and getting other quotes as well, I see that it is indeed much more. My issue is not with the pricing, it's about the fact that the information I was given upfront was inaccurate and I most likely would not have gone through (at least not without redoing my roof beforehand) had I known that upfront. Regarding providing you with the names, I'd be happy to provide that in an email. I actually have spoken to them since having the installation done and they told me that no longer work at the company. That seems to be standard for solar - grab some government incentives then go out of business - Just like Sunpower's recent filing for bankruptcy. Explain to me how a company selling a good product of the future can go bankrupt?

Read your contract. It specifically states that the owner is responsible for any materials left over from the project. You might think that means you need to throw out a card board box. I was left with a 100+ lb inverter in my basement with no way to carrying it up the stairs since I am a senior citizen. Throwing such an item in the garbage is inappropriate. Its a sad irony that a company promoting a green solution does not follow through and dispose of an old inverter responsibly.

I've been researching solar for over a year now. SunPower (solar manufacturer) always popped up on my radar. The SunPower Equinox System is built and manufactured here in the US. With an industry leading 25 year warranty it's a piece of mind knowing the system is covered, including labor. SunPower clearly shows they stand by their equipment. Compared to other solar competitors you'll deal with three different manufacturers (panels, inverters, and racking system) on three different warranties. So I was sold on what panel I wanted to go with. The next step was to research the installer. Received a number of different quotes and was connected with GenRenew. Since I wanted to purchase the system I was connected with GenRenew's co-founder Michael Mullen. From day one, Michael went above and beyond to earn my business. I've learned that GenRenew is a Master SunPower dealer. Knowing GenRenew only works with SunPower equipment this gave a piece of mind I'd be in good hands. Once the contract was signed and initial down payment was made, I was then connected with Lindsay Fischer. She's a jack of all trades and became my primary contact. Once the village permit and Comed net-metering was approved, the system was ordered. The installation team, including the electrician, were top notch. Both were done in two days total. We just had our village inspection and passed. Less than an hour later I receive a call from Lindsay that ComEd already approved the system and has been turned on. I can't speak highly enough of this company and employees. A++

**UPDATE** No longer a SunPower dealer. Both Michael and Linsay are no longer with the company. Been directed to contact SunPower going forward. 👎👎

From my own experience, GenRenew is the only solar company I would go with. From the materials being made here in the United States to making sure everything is done properly to pass inspection to everything in between, I can't say enough good things about this company and its representatives. Lindsay from the office would call to give me updates and see if I had any questions without me having to ask (who does that)? Keith, the electrician, took great pride in his work and would stay until the job was finished, while Jeff was very diligent in obtaining permits and making sure everything was completed to pass inspection. GenRenew can be very proud to have them represent the company. I would highly recommend GenRenew to anyone!

Just recently completed our solar panel installation. We are fully up and running now. This company is very professional and polite. Also always easy to get a hold of a “real” person with any questions or concerns we had. The panels look great on our roof too!!! I would highly recommend this company!

Gen Renew by Sunpower is by far the best company I ever had the pleasure to work with. They did everything that was promised, very professional group of workers who installed the panels. My neighbors all say how good they look on the roof.
I had the pleasure of working with Lori from day one when we first decided to do this project, she is absolutely the best. She cares about each phase of the process and the people she deals with. Hats off to you Lori and the people at Gen Renew. Thank you!

Residential solar customer here. i would never recommend this company to anyone for residential. this project i was told would be completed by Christmas 2022, it is 3/6/23 and i still dont have final inspections on the work complete or the system up and producing electric. what i do have is a full electric bill as usual and a payment for the solar panels that are not producing electric.
i was supposed to have a panel upgrade and rerouting of service wire due to furture addition, which i supplied the sales team with at introduction of this project. those plans were disregarded in their installation plan which put major delays on the project and a service bill that went from the quoted 2600 to 6100 after project was started. they also tried to install a new panel with all minisplit breakers with no room left for any additional circuits. all circuits in house currently wouldnt even fit when they double tapped a few to leave at 730 pm, and the next morning at 7 am in 9 degree temps i had no water. i called a well company who came by and tested my well to find out there was no power. they installed two seperate 20 amp breakers instead of a double pole 20 amp breaker.
so far this project has been a complete mess. maybe i will have my panels producing electric before month #3 of double payments.
UPDATE still paying on loan and still have no Energy produced by the solar panels. im sure GenRenew has cashed their check from the loan i been paying on and still dont have service.

The electrician they sent out was a truly great guy. This was an inverter replacement on a 19 year old system. I felt comfortable leaving him alone in our house. He was very courteous, very knowledgeable, and I cannot say enough about my experience today. In the past I’ve run organizations with thousands of employees – now I am older and washed-up in corporate America (like anyone over 55) – but this young man is exactly the kind of person I would relish to have on my team.
