At first we got quotes from sunrun, tesla, and legacy. All of them had an overly complicated process extremely long timelines and hundreds of hoops to jump through.

I purchased my first solar array in 2001 and was very happy for 20 years with my energy bills. PG&E started jacking up their rates and my panels were producing less than half of their original wattage, so I began looking to replace my system. I had several companies provide me quotes. As I was looking for a battery backup system as well as a new array, I knew I was looking at tens of thousands to invest. All of the quotes I was receiving were over $50k. It wasn’t possible.
When Earthwise Energy came in for a quote of just over $30k, plus the federal tax incentive that would knock $10k off of that, I was both surprised and skeptical. After looking over the various quotes, they were mostly proposing the same equipment from the same manufacturers, but other companies were trying to upsell me to a system much larger than what I needed. Earthwise Energy’s sales rep was so much more down-to-earth with me, thoroughly explaining to me his reasoning for the size of the system compared to my household use, enough to balance out my energy bills, totalling just a few hundred a year. Especially if I used my battery backup as my energy source overnight throughout most of the year.
When it came to installation, the team working on the project were professional, full of information (I ask a lot of questions), fast, and very conscious of placement and dressing of the equipment to help it blend into my house. Some people are very concerned of the look of a solar system on their house, the roof, and equipment that may be visible from the street. It seems absurd to me, but Earthwise Energy was VERY helpful and had great suggestions for placement and painting to minimize this issue.
The final walkthrough and everything handled from the administrative end of this project was all very professional, so clearly explained, and always in a wonderfully relaxed and down-to-earth manner. And to have local people working on a local project, as a public high-school teacher, it makes such a big difference to work with such an amazing crew on all aspects of this project.
I have nothing but high praise for everyone at Earthwise Energy. Every question you ask will be answered thoroughly, thoughtfully, and with your best interest in mind.

So, you’re shopping for a “Solar” company. The internet is a good place to start, and if you’re like everyone else you’ll look at three or four sites and be totally confused. Don’t worry, that’s normal. Let’s take that confusion and put it to work and unconfuse your search. As background, I’ve had thermal solar for my pool for over 25 years and I’ve had [photovoltaic] ‘electrical’ solar for over 12 years. Over that span of time I’ve dealt with a number of “Solar” contractors - They’re NOT all the same. My advise is to spend extra time selecting the contractor and less time worrying about the exact equipment.

What you want is Solar universe experience— How long have they been installing systems? You want someone who listens to you and what your needs are. Earthwise Energy in San Anselmo met all my needs. Yes, you’re going to be spending a lot of money, no matter who you pick - Solar and Batteries [if you choose to add them - I did]
shouldn’t be done on-the-cheap, that doesn’t pay in the long run.

We looked at several national companies that were pushing leased panels without a battery backup; but our electrician said no, you want to own the system & have a backup battery, & sent us to Earthwise. Best decision we ever made! Cost-wise, not much more than a leased system, & backup power which we really wanted to protect us from future PG&E shutoffs. They were friendly, professional, & did a beautiful job on the install. Now when there's a power outage in the neighborhood, we smile & keep doing whatever we need to. Highly recommended.

I highly recommend Earthwise Energy. They designed and installed a ~30kW solar system for our home, along with a car charger and battery backup. We were referred to Earthwise by the company that renovated our home. We did our research, read all the other wonderful reviews, and the owner of Earthwise, Jason, even connected me with another client who sang his praises. Even with all these wonderful referrals and recommendations, Earthwise still exceeded our very high expectations at every level and phase of the project. In short, you can actually believe the hype!

Jason and his entire team have been an absolute pleasure to deal with from start to finish. Jason patiently and enthusiastically walked us through all of our options, as well as explained the entire installation and approval process to us. He has always been accessible, responsive and helpful whenever we had any questions. The only “delay” in the entire process was because of PGE bureaucracy, which we were prepared for because Jason warned us about it from the outset.

We couldn’t be happier with the end result. We have exactly what we wanted and there were no unanticipated delays or cost overruns. Jason and his team are extremely knowledgeable, patient, enthusiastic and professional. If you want the job done right, on time and on budget, go with Jason and Earthwise.

Really happy I went with Earthwise Energy for my solar panels and battery in October of 2023. Jason, Eddie, Tommy, everyone was responsive, professional, just a pleasure to work with.
