I pay my bill via 3-4 checks a year. Knew my bill was running behind and sent a check for several months. A week after I mailed the check my water was shut off over $2 from a previous month. I asked if they had received the check. They had but couldn’t accept it as I was late. Would have been nice for them to share this info with me. They would be mailing it back to me. I received the disconnection notice 3 DAYS AFTER my water had been shut off and my check two days after that. I had to pay a reconnection fee.

My complaint is simple: Consolidated Utilities Inc. is exploiting its customers through negligence and outright greed.

The water bills we receive are wildly inconsistent—spiking inexplicably without reason. When we call to challenge these outrageous charges, their customer service is dismissive and unhelpful. It’s like pulling teeth to get them to re-read the meter, and when they finally do, guess what? The meter was ā€œwrong,ā€ and we’re owed a credit. This isn’t a one-time issue; it has happened multiple times, which raises a serious question: How many other customers are being overcharged without even realizing it?

Adding insult to injury, their online payment system has been ā€œdownā€ for months, forcing customers to pay via check or money order. This feels intentional—a convenient way to rack up late fees and penalties for those who can’t comply with their outdated and inconvenient payment methods.

Consolidated Utilities Inc. is the textbook definition of a monopoly run amok. They face zero competition, and it shows. They mistreat their customers, overcharge them, and provide no accountability.

A satisfactory solution would include a full, independent audit of their billing practices, a functioning online payment system, and a commitment to transparency and fair treatment of their customers. Enough is enough—this exploitation must stop.

These guys suck. Period. I have no other option other than this company for water like most people. Online payments have been unavailable for 2-3 weeks. Their online payment is through a third party system and was always a pain to begin with. I called their ā€œcustomer serviceā€ which I’ve been to in downtown Savannah, which is a tiny little dungeon of an office. The girl told me, yes there will be late fees if you don’t mail in a check or pay cash in person or with a money order. This company is the worst. How they are still in business, I don’t know. Most likely political contacts. Horrible.

0/5 stars. This utility company is a nightmare to deal with. The administrative team is unprofessional and shows absolutely no regard for resolving issues or respecting customers’ time. Their online payment system is constantly down, leaving you unable to pay with a credit or debit card. The only option is to physically visit their downtown office during their extremely limited business hours or mail a physical check/money order — an inconvenience for anyone with a busy schedule.

To make matters worse, they tack on late fees for problems caused by their own office errors. It’s unacceptable that in this day and age, they can’t provide a functional online payment system or better customer service.

Local leaders need to step in and address these issues immediately. This will be escalated to higher-ups because the level of inefficiency and disregard for customers cannot continue. Completely unacceptable!

Absolute worst company I've ever delt with! Just like all other complaints here, their online payment system has been down with no notice to customers. Their electronic payment system is down completely! Only personal check and money orders are accepted. I cannot login and see how much I need to pay. I have to call to get an updated balance then take time out of my busy day to find a store or bank that will do a money order for me. I have been shut off several times in the past two years with out notice (I understand I am at fault for forgetting to pay, but a curtesy call or email stating I'm behind wouldn't be the end of the world.) Even worse if you do get disconnected for non payment in the Berwick Plantation area they will not return service same day. Even when you pay over the phone while the tech is there to turn off the water........There has to be something we can do to give this company the boot.

I'm very unhappy with Consolidated Utilities. If I could give them a zero rating, I would. They don't have online payments available and didn't bother to let their customers know there was a problem with their system.

If I had known about the problem, I would have mailed my payment before the due date. Now they want to charge me a late fee. The people in their office are rude af too. If I had another option for a utility company, I'd cancel them in a second.

I have not been able to pay my bill online for over two months - and they don't have a resolution to fix their credit card system. They will only take a money order - which then I have to drive downtown to give to them. They close at 4:30 and it's very hard to pay them when I work full time. I hope they can fix this problem soon and could at least take credit / debit cards over the phone. Or they could waive late fees since it's been harder to pay this company.
