Folks! Look no further for a solar system. West Texas Solar is the company to select if you’re in the market to save your well-earned dollars. I was paying over $300 a month on electrical needs keeping my home cooled at 78-degrees in the summer. After the installation was completed, my monthly electrical charged dipped below $60 (normal electrical and solar fees required by my electrical provider). If I had more panels I would probably had a better buyback from the provider or should I say a better electrical provider.

The installation was on two sides of my new home. It was designed so the panels would be in sunlight till sunset. It was also placed so the solar panels would be inconspicuous from the road adding yet another since of security. The batteries were setup inside my gate on a concrete slab outside the view of the road as well.

My system might be a little different than most but here’s what I wanted installed: I wanted a system capable of supplying power during a power outage like an uninterruptable power supply (UPS) and use the same battery charge to cut down on grid usage at night. After the batteries were fully charged, any excess power be sent back to the electric provider as a buyback plan. What I currently have is a 25 MSolar 410 watt panels, Sol-Ark 15k Hybrid Inverter and 3 EG4 PowerPro Outdoor Rated batteries at 14.3 kWh a piece for a total of 42.9 kWh.

I wanted the loan to be less than $300 a month and Mr. Jacob Lopez and his team at West Texas Solar were instrumental in reaching that goal. Jacobs was keeping me informed from his first visited when he showed me the options West Texas Solar had to offer. I’m still in contact with Jacob today and looking forward to future installation of batteries and/or solar panels to reach my goal of being fully independent from the electrical grid/provider. In my opinion I have an outstanding backup power/UPS and it can only get better only through West Texas Solar.

I’m your typical grouchy old man. Our soon to be retirement place is off grid, 3 miles off the paved road. The electric company asked us to pay $30K to string a line so we could buy electricity from them. The closest solar company at the time, 4 hrs away, charged the same, but at least it was turnkey, a one-time cost. We thought. Then the boat batteries almost took down our place. I was ready to write it off, but my wife contacted West Texas Solar. Jacob jumped on it. Yes, it would cost us, but Jacob realized our solar panels were fine. He didn’t try to upsell us. Instead, he worked with Joseph and Eugene to get us the best price possible. We still had issues because loan companies don’t like it if your property is 100 acres and they can’t pinpoint a GPS spot on the ground. But West Texas Solar wouldn’t give up. They worked from June thru Sept to get it right. They even worked with us to install a MiFi to check on our solar productivity from home (5 hrs away). Because we’re off grid, when we’re here, West Texas Solar make us their priority, even after the sale. If I have one phrase for them, it would be tenacious professionals. Just like my beautiful wife. Thankfully, this grouchy old man was wrong.

The process started in March and we gave the thumbs up right away and they said it will be in and running in two weeks. Two weeks later they state they're waiting on Taylor Electric. Then I'm told we're waiting on city permits. I called Kyle at TE and he sent over the approval. I'm told March 27 at noon they'll be by to install. We waited and waited and ended up remotely opening the garage over 2 hours later. They dropped off the battery. Then after crickets for a month I reached out, April 22 I was told we'd be tied in this week. April 24 I ask if we have a definite date, I was then told another job takes priority so hopefully Friday. Monday (29th) comes and I'm told it'll be hopefully Wednesday. May 6th I text bc supposedly we're set up, but we can't access the app (Lord knows what the app is) or anything. We were told the electrician would go over this with us-he had no clue either. We ended up finding information in a stack of papers from the electrician. We never heard from West Texas Solar once they were paid. Thankfully the system restarting 8x in the morning, soon after install, was fixed promptly, but overall very disappointed that $30k didn't include any communication and me having to hound them constantly. Honestly we probably wouldn't be as frustrated and ticked off had we had been communicated with.

Let me start with: I’m not an environmentalist. I approached this solely on thinking that if I could eliminate an electric bill averaging ~$500 per month as I can see retirement in the not-too-distant future, it would be as good as adding a revenue stream and take out some doubt associated with what inflating energy prices can do.

And despite the way I opened the last paragraph, I also drive a Tesla. My wife drives a PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid). So not only is there the possibility of eliminating my home power bill, but also powering our driving for a few hundred miles a week!

Once I did enough research to see that it *might* make sense, I started asking for analysis and quotes. I received 3 local company quotes, and 2 national chain quotes. Two of the three local companies were very close – the other fairly high. One of the national chains was really cheap… until I asked for specifics.

The local company that was competitive was represented by a very personable fella, and I expected to use them. Then Jacob showed up at the office to go over the proposal in person and answer any questions. This was when West Texas Solar began to separate themselves.

The value in using WTS was that Jacob started answering questions I didn’t know I had. He wasn’t just presenting a system and showing numbers – he was also explaining how to make the system work for you by using the right electric provider. He explained net metering, and what wasn’t true net-metering, but what would work under the circumstances I wanted.

Back to the first paragraph – this wasn’t about saving the planet; this was about saving money. I’m 60. We don’t plan on moving. This investment theoretically gives us free (or close to free) electricity the rest of our lives. And that includes running around in the Tesla or whatever EV we’re driving.

West Texas Solar has my check. Everything is paid in full. But they are still following up, answering questions, and tweaking to make everything just right.

One last comment – everyone on their crew was exceptionally nice, polite, and helpful. I never stepped out the door without whomever was closest asking if I had any questions.

I don’t review many companies – less than 5, I’m pretty sure. But I would not hesitate to recommend Landon, Jacob, and West Texas Solar.
