Spent weeks looking into solar companies when I narrowed it down to a few to meet with. After speaking with Bill Laseilo at Windfree, I got the best feeling from our conversations. Helped they also had the best price. Bill was easy to talk to and wasn't pushy in any manner. He was there through the whole process along with the project manager Erik. They even gave an option to pay a little more to have the conduit piped through my attic instead of on the outside of the roof, which is a huge eyesore that you don't realize with other companies until after they do the job.

The expectations were set and he didn't play games to make it seem like it would get done faster than it would actually take to get the paperwork signed.

They used an actual electrician that also has great reviews on Google. The installers were friendly and professional. There were some minor issues after the install, but Windfree and the electric contractor took care of things quickly. Would recommend.

Great Experience with Windfree!
I had them install a pretty big system on my south facing roof this spring. The team worked quickly and professionally. They completed the job in 4 working days over a two week period.
The tech will come back this week to help install the tracking app on my phone. I’m thrilled to save hundreds of dollars every month on my electric bill while reducing global warming!
I highly recommend Windfree for this type of work.

All the above still holds, but I waited three whole months to get the completed system actually crediting money to my power bill! It looks like it was a combination of ComEd and the installer doing a poor job with basic clerical tasks. I lost more than $1000 in solar power during that time, but the app on my phone looked like I was generating power. Communication from both ComEd and Windfree has been quite poor overall with just a couple of exceptions. It’s really sad that I have to drop my earlier rating to 2 stars, but Windfree didn’t make it a priority to complete my connection and communicate regularly with me.

If you look under the hood at Windfree Solar, you’ll find virtually no after-sale service. Despite their hype and rhetoric, their customer care is severely lacking. They promised regular monitoring and annual equipment checks when they did show up a time or two they sent a rookie tech that repeatedly let us know he had no training for our system with battery back up. Had he had proper training I would likely not be mopping water out of my basement after the grid power failed today during a storm. When Windfree Solar’s expensive solar/battery backup system and service team were put to the test when the grid went down, they failed miserably. Buyer beware.

Additionally, the installation crew was amazing! They kept us informed as to what they were doing when they were here. Everything was installed extremely well and everything was cleaned up when they were done.

I wish I could have as a good experience as everybody else here.

While the installation was fine, it took them a month to provide me a link to install the app. And now, the app and the battery they installed are not working as intended. It's been two months, and all I can get from them is "someone is looking into this".

So my advise would be to not use them if you plan to have a battery on top of your solar panels. And keep your fingers crossed everything goes smoothly. They clearly have follow-up issues.

Great overall experience! We had our initial consultation in August of 2023 and had designs and permits by October. Installation was seamless and was hooked up to the grid by December. We just received our rebate from the state, the timing of which lined up exactly with their initial prediction. The production estimate has been very accurate as well, and our electric bill has been the minimum (approximately $15 / month service fee only) for the last few months.

We had a wonderful experience with Windfree Solar. They were very communicative in the initial planning phases and efficient once we were scheduled for the installation. It took less than 48 hours and they made sure to clean up a few minor interior problems we identified after completion. Highly recommended if you're considering adding solar rooftop.

We could not be happier with our Windfree Solar experience! They were great to work with throughout the process. Very helpful, knowledgeable, and attentive to our needs. Our 12kW(AC) roof mount system was installed in one day by an excellent crew and went online in December 2023. January output was hindered by very heavy snowfall but in February our system is on pace to exceed the expected output for this time of year! We qualified for ILSFA, and they were also extremely helpful in managing and navigating that process. We highly recommend Windfree Solar!
