COA Utilities just turned off my power when it is 21° outside. I have not even received a notice. I moved into my house recently and all my bills are on auto pay (so I thought) Why was I not notified that anything was wrong? This company is horrible. Worst utility company I have ever experienced. They will turn your power off when it is freezing with 0 remorse. Corrupt, awful human beings.

Just repeating what everyone has already said and knows… these people are legit scammers. They lie and charge you illegal fees. I moved from Austin after being there for 2 years and literally they have a $550 charge that will not go off my credit report and I dispute it and they block it. I asked for proof of the bill they claim I had (I was paid up when I moved) and they said if I wanted to have proof of that, they would charge me $25 an hour to have “An account specialist” look into it hahahah you can’t make this crap up. Insane extortion. I hope the government comes after them soon for scamming people and ruining their credit.

Continuous problems with the automatic bill pay on their website. When billed, the site keeps changing one number on my bank account, causing the payment to not go through and now I’m being forced to pay cash only for a year I have screen shots showing my correct account being saved into their system. And another of them billing the wrong account number. Makes no sense why I’m being punished for an error of their website! And now that I’ve been reading these reviews, seems I’m not the only one with payment issues on this site. LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS AND GET THIS FIXED!!!! Especially since it seems I can’t get electricity from anyone else in Austin.

Human error happens—sometimes you can type a digit incorrectly for an account or routing number—and I feel that COA is very punishing when it comes to these errors. When a payment is returned for these reasons, the response is to limit your accessibility to making your payment. It feels punitive and frustrating to feel as though you are punished for simply making a mistake that can easily be rectified. But instead, they make you wear a cone of shame.

Any negative review this company has received is certainly earned, Austin electricity has services and penalties in their services that are so dated, and when you bring it to their attention for extra charges or penalties added to your bill over the most trivial details, they are very matter of fact with you. I moved to a different apartment building a few months ago, and besides some of the ridiculous obstacles this company put me through, my current situation has be even more upset, the previous renter had a rebate plan in place that would as it seems give them ZERO hot water, this service randomly kicked in last week without notice, since it started I can’t get any hot water and when I reach out to support, the water side of the Austin energy said I have to talk to the rebate channel of support, since attempting to contact them I have left them a voicemail and they have not called back and now because it’s a holiday of course they have another day off so this will make it 5 days of cold water at the worst time of year.
Zero accountability and effort from this company but god forbid you have the slightest billing error on your end because trust me, they will hold you accountable.

While I have had issues with the COA utilities in the past, Megan has been extremely helpful in resolving billing problems. Due to a recent move, I had duplicate addresses that I was being billed for, and Megan was able to prorate the old address and ensure that the new address was correct and in my name. Though I'm sure they can't fix everything, Megan was able to get everything corrected, which I am thankful for.

City of Austin utilities company is nothing short of an abomination. Thieves. Fraudulent. Have caused me so many problems. I could go on all day but in short it started with a $5,000 bill from over 10 years ago that was somehow put on my name and I was held accountable for and the last 4 years of my life has been dictated by this company entirely. The most recent issue was that for no reason at all. They took my utilities out of my name and put them in the building of the apartment complex that I live in and then also charged me commercial rates for 6 months before My building caught the issue. Got smacked with a $2,000 bill that I couldn't afford at the time so I paid over $1,000 to turn my electricity on and then was given less than 30 days to pay the remaining balance and I did not have any documentation saying that. So I'm here using my last few percent of battery to make sure that other people know about this terrible terrible company that we are all unfortunately obligated to use. SHUT AUSTIN ENERGY DOWN

Why do you make it SO HARD TO MAKE A PAYMENT Why the hell is there so many “security” questions. I spend sometimes over an HOUR, every single month trying to make a payment that should be easy to do less than 5 minutes! Because I have to deal with the back and forth from the automated system and customer service line that can’t seem to figure anything out and ask questions that literally do not matter!
