The most crazy thing I have ever seen is that there are no customer service representatives available anymore. To see a credit counselor, you go and sign in, and someone calls your name, which you can barely hear them. They need a mic or number call system.

They don't bother telling you that they are gonna text you when they get to you. This is poor customer service and nor wanting to deal with customers. This is literally your job if you don't like dealing with the customers to find something else to do. I truly feel bad for the older people who don't text or know how to. This is crazy

I came on a Tuesday morning around 9am, so it wasn’t very busy! I got in quickly with little to no wait time- so go early on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday! They also use text to update you on your estimated wait time.
I recently moved to Memphis and had to transfer service over to my name. The lady assisting me was very efficient and helpful! But all of the staff that I met there were great- even the security team! I was in and out in about 30-40 mins!
Also, if you’re lucky there might be parking on the side of the road, right in front of the building. If not there’s a parking lot across the street.

MLGW is the worst! I wish I could give zero stars. My power has been out since 9am, and I was told that it would not be back on until 7pm, all while my bill was double this month! If this was just a one time occurrence or rarely happened I wouldn’t leave a bad review, but it’s not! We are constantly having issues, and the bills just keep getting higher and higher! Very frustrating!

Cannot get through to change a transfer order. There seems to be no way to find a person. I keep going into just recordings. This could have been handled in a 3 minute phone call. I guess they will find out the transfer order is wrong, since I cant tell them. Lots of room for improvement here.

Mlgw is a perfect analogy for Memphis as a whole. Lazy and useless. My trash has been at the curb for 6 weeks! I call every week when they miss me. Trash is still there. Mlgw is charging me for this service. Trash is STILL there! If they don't get it today, I'm just dumping it in the street, where it will blend in with the rest of the garbage flooding this disgusting city

I can’t say enough good things about MLGW’s sewer division, especially Mr. Tony and Tavonte. After being overcharged $480 by Mr. Rooter for absolutely no results, I called MLGW out of frustration—and I’m so glad I did. Getting in touch with them was quick and easy, and scheduling service was just as simple—a stark contrast to Mr. Rooter, who claims professional plumbing help is hard to come by.

Tony and Tavonte arrived promptly, assessed the situation without unnecessary upsells, and got straight to work. In less than 7 minutes, they had my clogged sewage main completely cleared—at no charge. Meanwhile, Mr. Rooter wasted hours and still didn’t fix a thing, all while trying to sell me thousands of dollars in unnecessary repairs.

Both workers were professional, knowledgeable, and efficient. MLGW’s sewer division is a lifesaver for Memphis residents dealing with plumbing issues. If you have a problem, call them first before wasting your time and money elsewhere. Huge thanks to Tony and Tavonte for their honesty, skill, and top-notch service!

I know MLG&W not asking customer to reserve energy while that situation in South Memphis hog all the energy I wonder if their power is off. If we reserve energy will our light bill reflect the same.....

Memphis Light Gas and Water's rate increase goes into effect Friday.

Starting Jan. 3, 2025, MLGW electric customers will see a 4% increase in their monthly bills. Natural gas and water rates will not change in 2025, so there is some relief there.

In a post on Instagram, MLGW said that the increase is expected to cost customers about $5 per month.

When did MLGW decide to increase rates?

This rate increase was decided on Dec. 5, 2023 when the Memphis City Council approved a 12% increase over the next three years. The changes in MLGW budget would account for raises for employees and the expected addition of about 36 employees.

Why is MLGW increasing rates?

The budget includes money for replacements for electric, gas and water infrastructure. MLGW President and CEO Doug McGowen said the goal is to replace two substation transformers, ten substation circuit breakers, 2,100 distribution poles and 90,000 feet of defective underground cable each year. The utility service hopes to create a more reliable electricity network for the city with its replacement projects.

When was the last MLGW price increase?

In late 2023, the Memphis City Council approved MLGW's plan to increase electric bill costs 12% from 2024 through 2026. Thus, the last increase was in 2024 for 4%, and there will be another increase next year for 4%. Citizens of Memphis, we stand at a crucial juncture where our voices must be heard. Despite the rising property taxes and increased costs for essential services like waste management, our communities in North Memphis, Frayser, Midtown, and East Memphis continue to suffer from neglect. Our streets remain riddled with potholes, and outdated streetlights cast dim shadows over our neighborhoods. The disparity between the escalating costs we bear and the minimal improvements we witness is unacceptable.

Moreover, while prices surge across the greater Memphis area, wages lag far behind, increasing only marginally. This growing economic divide threatens the well-being and dignity of our community. It is imperative that we, as citizens, unite to demand accountability and tangible results from those in power. We must advocate for equitable investment in our neighborhoods and fair compensation for our labor. Together, let us strive for justice and equality, ensuring that every voice is heard and every community thrives.
