COMPLETE DISASTER. BEWARE! I CANNOT RECOMMEND FORTRESS POWER BECAUSE THE EQUIPMENT DOESN'T WORK (DESIGN FLAWS), THERE IS NO CUSTOMER SERVICE OR TECH SUPPORT UNLESS YOU LEAVE A REVIEW LIKE THIS, AND THEN THEY STILL CAN'T HELP YOU. YOU'RE COMPLETELY ON YOUR OWN IF YOU GET A FORTRESS POWER SYSTEM!!! NO TECH SUPPORT!!!!!

Background: I have two ENVY True 12kW inverters in parallel, and two 18.5kwh eVault Max batteries. Total cost ~$60k. See photos.

There are 5 areas where Fortress Power has failed and continues to fail miserably.

1.) There is basically no product or technical support - TECH SUPPORT WILL NOT RESPOND TO SERVICE TICKETS!!!
2.) The App is so marginally functional you may as well assume there is no App
3.) The inverters and batteries don't have any semblance of a user manual (look at the "installation manual" they try to use as substitute - what a joke).
4.) The equipment does not work properly.
5.) The batteries don't charge below freezing

1.) Customer service is a joke: The "technicians" are down in Puerto Rico. There are language issues. And they don't know what they're talking about most of the time. My installer (biggest one in Utah) and I have spent over 10 hours on the phone with them. Very often, whoever you're "talking to" is talking to somebody else in background. Mostly, you're on hold, bc they just don't have knowhow w the hardware and software to troubleshoot problems. They don't even respond to my service tickets anymore, and I don't even bother to put them in. There is basically NO CUSTOMER/TECHNICAL SUPPORT.

Now, bc of this review, a PUBLIC RELATIONS person at the Fortress HQ emailed me, and a few weeks later sent a real knowledgeable engineer named Greg to my home to try to troubleshoot the issues. He spent a good deal of time here and gave me his cell phone number. Very nice guy. So at least if the system totally goes kaput, I have somebody to call directly. But Greg is not responsible for, nor can he fix, the crappy "service ticket" problem in Puerto Rico, or the App, or the Guardian, or the batteries not charging when it's too cold.

2.) The App barely works. Just assume there is no App. I'm not even bothering with the details. If you wanna control your inverters, go to the inverters, if you can figure out the controls using only the installation manual, which is 90% wiring diagrams.

3.) There is no instruction manual. Seriously. Which you kind of need if "Technical Support" will not respond to "service tickets". Can you imagine: Fortress Power is willing to sell you tens of thousands of dollars of equipment, and they can't even bother to provide an end-user instruction manual with it? This is no joke, folks! I'm not making this up! The links Caroline the PR person in PA sent me are INSTALLATION manuals, not INSTRUCTION manuals written for an end-user audience.

4.) The equipment does not work properly. They finally did figure out how to set it up for Time Of Use (TOU) control, but that requires a work-around. (The previous work-around that the one tech told me to use [CHARGE FIRST PV] was causing other issues.) The system was not designed to be set up around TOU (e.g., there is nothing on the App or the Inverter that even says "Time of Use"). TOU is one of the main reasons people get batteries!

The energy flows have never registered correctly and we're 15 months in now. So I cannot monitor my system - like how much batteries are charging/discharging, etc.

I have to cover the batteries with blankets in the winter and put a space heater between the batteries to get them to charge. RIDICULOUS, and probably a fire hazard!

The "Guardian" communicator constantly displays the red error light. Greg replaced it when he was here, then a few weeks later he updated the inverters/batteries, and now the light is on all the time.

I appreciate the efforts the PR person in PA made to contact me, and especially Greg for coming on-site. However, there are just too many issues with this system that are beyond the ability of a PR person and a single tech/engineer to remedy.

I have been installing the Fortress Power Envy and EFlex products for primarily off grid installs in California since late 2023 and have been working directly with Gary in technical support on every install since day one. The product has been solid, remains the most well rounded product I have available for mid to large installs and has met all my customers needs, the operation and app operation has been picked up quickly by my customers and callbacks have been minimal to none since install(s). Any issues that have surfaced have been addressed in quick fashion by Gary or in unusual cases he has worked directly with me to troubleshoot and identify a problem and work out a solution. Gary has taken the time to answer my questions and explain operation related to customization for each different scenario I have ran into and continues to look over each and every system remotely after deployment to make sure everything is set up for maximum efficiency. My calls and questions have been answered directly or within the day each time I have called in. I have worked with many manufacturers over the years and in almost all cases the reason I have moved away from a product has been lack of available tech support and lack of knowledge by tech support, I don’t have time to sit in a long queue or wait a day or two to get a return call and the main reason I remain with this company is their attention to their installers. I can say that their attention to my needs and openness to my suggestions is what keeps me loyal and will remain so as long as their installer support remains the way it has been these past couple years. I had a BMS issue in one of my 2 eVault Classic subsystems causing a deep discharge and total outage on it. When I recognized the outage, I sent a email to Fortress technical support where it was quickly responded to by one of their techs Luis. What made the experience a 5 star rating is that Luis responded quickly and was genuinely concerned about getting my system fixed quickly and correctly. He inquired daily about whether their local reseller was responding to my satisfaction. You don’t see that level of concern from vendors much any more. And guess what, the reseller did a phenomenal job restoring my system to 100%! Thank you Fortress support!

* I live in San Miguel de Allende, MX where I had 8 580w solar panels, Envy True 12 kW inverter and an eVault Max 18.5 kW battery installed over a month ago. It was to be used to supply electricity to my home and have backup power for during power losses. It has never work. The inverter has been cycling on and off from time to time and has to be put in standby mode. Support is terrible and has not been able to solve the problem and most recently, the battery has failed. It is showing 0V at the terminals though it is indicating 53.2Vdc on the app! Unless you can put up with unreliable products, combined with poor customer service I would stay far away from Fortress Power as there are much better products on the market!

*** This is an update which takes my review from 1 star to 3 stars. My system has finally been working as I expected for about 1 month. I am happy with the way it is running and I am hopeful it will continue to do so. However, it took a bad google review to get action and it took 73 days from install (6/29/2024) for it to finally work as expected (9/10/2024).

I had a technical issue with my inverters on my solar system and the correction was tricky because i am off grid. The fix also dragged into after hours on Friday night and my tech Jeremy did everything he could to make sure I was up and running before nightfall. Very thankful for his ability to help and willingness to work after hours. He went above and beyond!

We have two Fortress eVault Max18.5 batteries and had communication problems between the batteries and the Inverter. This happened after a long period of cloudy weather (weeks). I requested a ticket from Fortress and over a period of 5-7 days was helped by three engineers: Carlos Davila, Luis Gustavo Rodriguez, and Jeremy Roberts. These men were polite, informative and helpful. I installed a Guardian monitor, but it wouldn't work, so Jeremy called me back on my personal phone and walked me through the setup for both batteries. It works. Jeremy was unbelievably patient, kind and helpful. He is a credit to Fortress Power!
