Quick, easy, and affordable (for Cherokee residents). Helpers were available for unloading. I dropped off an old water heater, air compressor, cardboard, and miscellaneous scrap metal.

Easy and friendly! They took my old TV for $21, and batteries and an old cell phone (for free). Feels good doing the right thing with our waste.

Never been to the blalock location but the bells ferry one is absolutely horrible. First time here and the person there is the rudest and most useless person ever. The signs are very faded and unclear so I wasn’t sure what I could put in the bin. The man sees what I’m doing and waits till I’m done to tell me I can’t do that. He’s telling me to fold boxes and pick some stuff up off the ground meanwhile he’s on the phone talking to someone on loud speaker. I hope he’s not getting paid all that much to yell at people and sit on his phone.

Tried to recycle this morning at the Blalock Road location. Got there at 9:10 am. Long line of cars in both directions. My line was almost to Toonigh! Waited until 10 am in line and had to leave to go to another appointment and only got to Park entrance. There HAS to be a better way to handle peak volume processing than this! More centers, more dumpster pick ups to central center, more dumpsters, more lanes for recycling, etc.

This facility is always full lately (2023 and 2024) and unable to accept additional materials when we try to drop off. We’re going to give up attempting to drop anything off at the location until there are improvements. Attempts have all been mid week and typically during off hours if there is such a thing. (9-10AM - not near holidays)

**update a year later: Originally, when I wrote this in 2023 I gave this place 2 stars. Now bringing it down more after several interactions. I showed up at noon in the middle of the week and dude said they fill up before that every day. So, if I were you, I wouldn’t even bother coming to this place. County staff are rude and despite their free labor from a bunch of people doing community service, they still make this a miserable experience.

Original post:
Apparently their recycling bins fill up by Saturday, so you must go during the week (despite most people working during their weekday hours).

Instead of 1) having extra bins, 2) emptying them prior to Saturdays, or 3) using any of their ample storage areas to hold overflow, they would like you to come during the week. Seems ridiculous that no one has the forethought to address this “known issue”, but would rather you “go to their Facebook page” to check the status of how full the bins are.

I thought I did the right thing by checking their website, which they guy at the actual center said they “have no control over. Just look at Facebook”. Which is annoying since 1) I’m not on it and 2) they actually have a website.

So, fair warning before you travel to this annoying to get to location and waste an hour out of your day…..check Facebook. Or if you like me, throw it away at this point. What choice do I have. Take time off work to potentially get rejected because they cannot manage what would seemingly be a simple logistics problem.

By they way, they don’t take wood (I was rejected previously for that, and they told me to check the website haha). That was my fault for not checking. I’ve had decent experiences here several times, but I doubt I go back. 50/50 isn’t good odds.

*** Update thanks to the response I got from Troy the manager for the facility.

They don’t fill up *by Saturday, just extra quickly on Saturdays (before noon lately). He said they post it on Facebook when that happens. I got there a bit before 1 and was turned away. I suppose my update would be get there early OR check their Facebook. I think it’s ridiculous, but the dude said that’s where most of their customers are.

My advice: build another dock, get more bins (and a tractor to move them as they fill up), or build a shed to hold overflow (out of the weather) until the next bin is dropped off.

Staff is always courteous, friendly and helpful. Always a great experience. Glad that they are so close since Waste Management stopped picking up recycling. Only downside is business hours are aligned with typical business hours, so its nearly impossible for me to drop anything here during the week day; shame the hours aren't 10-6 or something, but that's just a personal gripe and in no way reflects on the workers.
