Surprise! and not in a good way...

If I could give the level of service ZERO stars, I would; at least for yesterday. Carried a load of burnt wood Saturday to the landfill, only to be met at the gate by a couple jokesters, er, employees that checked my load and informed me that it "was still warm," and they couldn't accept it. I was instantly annoyed, and informed THEM that yes, the wood was warm because the outside temp was 70+ degrees and the trailer had been sitting in the afternoon sun while it was being loaded by me an hour or so previously... and the 20-mile trip from my residence in Greenfield! The actual burning of the wood had occurred a week or so ago. I just happened to have a copy of the Greenfield FD's official report on the incident in my pocket, and offered to show it to these two. Of course, they declined; but maintained their position that I must away, and come back with the wood wetted. I had NEVER experienced this sort of behavior from the staff on any past visits - quite the contrary, actually. The male employee gave me some lame excuse about how their jobs would be on the line if they permitted me to bring this load in and his female associate mumbled agreement. It occurred to me to check my watch, and it was 3:09 P.M. 50 minutes before quitting time for this pair. It now became clear to me what was going on. I didn't pursue it further... a wasted 40-mile haul I would have to repeat tomorrow.
Today, I SOAKED the load of wood with water, and returned to the landfill, and, amazingly, the male employee I had had difficulties with yesterday was again on duty at the scale. The conversation was short:
Employee: "Oh, back again, I see."
Me: "Yes."
Employee: (checking load) "Wood's wet today."
Me: "Yes. Per your request."
Employee: "Great."
Me: "Yes. I shared with your boss my experience yesterday. I didn't want a repeat performance."
Employee: "Perfect!"
The load was admitted without further incident.

I hope no other future patrons of the landfill have to tolerate this adolescent behavior... until yesterday, I had a favorable opinion regarding this landfill. I still maintain that opinion, with the exception of the two employees I met...

Be warned, reader.

Nice lady in the office. Fairly straightforward. Drive up the the area, employees guide you to a parking spot. You toss all your trash, drive down to office, pay, and go home. Dumped roofing and sewer pipes.

Candy, the lady who works at the entrance, is a sweetheart. She is very nice as well as knowledgeable and helpful. Last weekend I had 4.5 tons of clean broken up concrete I needed to dispose of . Total cost was under $10. Wow - that is a hell of a deal! Dispose of your trash and hazardous waste properly and notify your local police or sheriff if you see someone dumping trash illegally or dumping oil and/or hazardous waste into rivers , lakes, canals.
